Aug. 22, 2002 - Chart Attack: Queens of the Stone Age Steal Spookey Ruben's Drummer

Spookey Ruben, who recently booked himself a series of hot gigs in Southern California with Blinker The Star, has had to cancel the shows, save for a pair of solo acoustic dates. It seems that the Queens Of The Stone Age have hijacked Spookey's drummer.
According to Spookey Ruben's record label, Hi-Hat Recordings, Kellii Scott, a long-time member of Blinker The Star who has also been playing in Spookey's live band, recently got the call to step in behind the kit for QOTSA. The band's most recent drummer, Dave Grohl, had to pull out of the QOTSA tour to tend to his regular band, the Foo Fighters.
As a result, Spookey and Blinker have had to cancel dates in San Diego, San Francisco and Los Angeles, all of which were planned for mid-September. Spookey will still appear at L.A.'s Hotel Café on August 25 and September 8 for his scheduled solo shows.
But, Spookey's loss is Scott's gain. QOTSA are hot, hot, hot right now. They just graced the cover of famed British music mag, NME, they're about to embark on a giant tour and their new record, Songs For The Deaf will be released next Tuesday (August 27). Now, we here at ChartAttack don't use the word "bitchin'" often, but for QOTSA we'll make an exception.
Songs For The Deaf is one bitchin' album.
There. Unfortunately, QOTSA only have one Canadian date planned at this time. Catch them (and Kellii Scott) on September 7 at the Kool Haus in Toronto where they'll be joined by …And You Will Know Us By The Trail Of Dead.
